Illuminating Initiative Launched in Salt Lake

The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to enhance street lighting across Salt Lake by procuring and installing LED lights in all 41 wards as part of the Green Cities Mission scheme. Mayor Krishna Chakraborty acknowledged existing issues with inadequate street illumination, which have led to safety concerns for both pedestrians and motorists. Residents have reported instances of poorly lit roads and dysfunctional streetlights, exacerbating the risks associated with potholes. In recognition of these challenges, the BMC has increased its budget for streetlight installation and maintenance, allocating Rs 18.5 crore for the upcoming financial year. Previous state government funding, amounting to nearly Rs 4 crore, has already facilitated the installation of approximately 4,500 LED lights in key areas. BMC officials emphasized their commitment to regular maintenance checks to ensure the proper functioning of the lighting system.
