Infrastructure Firm Finalizes LED Deployment in Surrey

Milestone Infrastructure, a division of M Group Services, has successfully completed a comprehensive upgrade of Surrey County Council’s street lighting, converting 89,000 existing fixtures to energy-efficient LED lanterns. This initiative, which began in 2020, aims to enhance environmental sustainability, yielding a significant 65% reduction in energy consumption and a corresponding decrease in carbon emissions. LED lights, which consume 30-40% less energy than traditional options and offer better visibility while minimizing light pollution, have been implemented alongside innovative recycling practices for outdated streetlights. The project is expected to deliver a major energy saving of 16 million kWh, contributing to the council’s financial efficiency and supporting its commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Surrey’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Economic Growth, Matt Furniss, expressed satisfaction with the project’s completion and its alignment with the council’s sustainability goals.
