The Kulehe project, launched on January 29, 2025, in Addis Ababa by the youth-led NGO Safe Light Initiative, aims to foster employment opportunities for 120 young individuals from host communities and refugee populations. Backed by the ILO and Edukans Foundation’s Youth to Youth Fund, the initiative will provide selected youth with seed capital to start their businesses, alongside access to digital financial services that bypass traditional collateral requirements. The project’s name, meaning “for all” in Ge’ez, reflects its inclusive strategy to enhance entrepreneurship skills and connect participants with potential investors. The launch event featured discussions on sustainable business practices and the role of financial institutions in supporting youth initiatives, emphasizing the critical need for innovative financial solutions to stimulate economic development in Ethiopia.
