Researchers at Shiv Nadar University, Delhi-NCR, have made a groundbreaking advancement in materials science by developing a rare-earth-free composite material with diverse applications in solid-state lighting, artificial intelligence, and environmental remediation. Led by Professor Aloke Kanjilal and research scholar Bisweswar Santra, this innovative composite reduces dependence on imported rare-earth elements, offering a scalable alternative for emerging technologies. Notably, it features a phosphor with exceptional dual-band photoluminescence and has been optimized for cost-effective solid-state lighting, enhancing India’s self-reliance in this field. Additionally, the composite supports the development of energy-efficient computing devices that mimic brain efficiency, exhibits strong photocatalytic properties to address water pollution, and demonstrates remarkable radiation hardness, making it suitable for extreme environments. This research highlights the university’s dedication to interdisciplinary advancements with significant real-world impact.
