sports Minister Kirsty Coventry has announced positive progress in the refurbishment of the National Sports stadium, which faced a ban on international matches due to structural problems. Following a site visit on March 10, 2025, Coventry confirmed that the installation of bucket seats is in motion and repairs to the water reticulation system are underway. While acknowledging delays attributed to slow fund disbursement from the Ministry of Finance, she expressed optimism that the project is now on track. Engineer Nicholas Mutengu, overseeing the refurbishment, highlighted ongoing work that includes the installation of electronic turnstiles—three of which are designated for people with disabilities—upgrades to lighting with energy-saving LED fixtures, and improvements to the turf. With VIP bays already completed and general seating areas nearing completion, the stadium refurbishment is progressing towards completion by the end of April.
