Lake Shasta Caverns Introduces Advanced LED Lighting System
Lake Shasta Caverns in Shasta County, California, has reopened after completing a major lighting renovation, the first significant upgrade since the caverns became a show cave in the 1960s. The renovation replaced 180 traditional bulbs with over 1,000 energy-efficient LED “Luminaries,” reducing power consumption by 80% and supporting conservation efforts, particularly for local bat habitats. Visitors can now enjoy dynamic, guided lighting displays that enhance the unique geological formations, including a special sound and light experience in the Cathedral Room. A grand reopening event will take place on June 6, open to the public. The project involved international collaboration and positions Lake Shasta Caverns as the second U.S. cavern to implement such advanced lighting technology.
