The Las Vegas City Council recently passed a “dark sky” ordinance aimed at regulating nighttime light emissions, particularly affecting the construction of a new Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple in the northwest valley near Lone Mountain. Although the ordinance does not explicitly reference the temple, it applies to the rural Lone Mountain neighborhood and La Madre Foothills, where residents prioritize darker skies and reduced lighting.
