Lightning Strike Claims Life of Peruvian Soccer Player and Injures Four Others, Captured on Video

In a tragic incident during a soccer match in Huancayo, Peru, 39-year-old defender José Hugo De la Cruz Meza was killed by a lightning strike that also injured four teammates on Sunday. The event occurred as players were leaving the field due to deteriorating weather conditions at Coto Coto stadium. Live footage captured the moment of the strike, showing the players falling to the ground, while De la Cruz did not move after the incident. The team’s goalkeeper, Juan Chocca Llacta, who was walking alongside De la Cruz, suffered serious injuries but survived. His family is now seeking financial assistance for funeral costs and support for De la Cruz’s widow and their three young children.
