A tragic incident at a local league soccer match in Chilca, Peru, resulted in the death of 39-year-old defender Hugo De La Cruz after a lightning strike hit the field during a storm on Sunday. The strike occurred in the 22nd minute of the game between Juventud Bellavista and Familia Chocca, with footage showing players collapsing on the pitch and others struggling to stand afterward. In addition to De La Cruz, four other players were injured; two of them have since been discharged from the hospital, while one remains in critical condition. The local municipality expressed condolences to De La Cruz’s family and support for the injured players.
