The Moshi Municipal Council (MMC) is launching a substantial 1 billion TZS project to renovate Majengo stadium as part of its strategy to leverage Tanzania’s role as a co-host of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals. MMC Municipal Director Mwajuma Nasombe emphasized the stadium’s significance in promoting sports, particularly football, in the Kilimanjaro region. The upcoming renovations, which build upon an initial 600 million TZS investment in its construction, aim to attract AFCON teams for training and boost local economic activity. Mayor Zuberi Kidumo outlined that funding for the upgrades will come from projected revenue collections and include enhancements to the playing area, spectator seating, lighting, and overall infrastructure. Nasombe also encouraged local businesses to capitalize on the event’s potential to increase visibility and sales.
