Maplewood Celebrates with Menorah Lighting Ceremony

A menorah lighting ceremony took place on December 26 in Ricalton Square, Maplewood, celebrating Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights. Rabbi Sholom Bogomilsky of the Maplewood Jewish Center, who has organized the event for over two decades, led the ceremony alongside Maplewood Councilman Vic DeLuca and Councilwoman-elect Malia Herman, drawing a crowd of approximately 100 attendees. The event commemorated the historical rededication of the ancient Jewish temple in Jerusalem by the Maccabees after their victory over a larger army. Highlighted by the miracle of the oil that burned for eight days, the ceremony included traditional observances such as enjoying donuts and latkes, symbolizing the significance of the holiday.
