Mayor Reinert Declares Dark Sky Day in Duluth

Duluth, Minnesota, marked Dark Sky Day on April 24th, as Mayor Reinert proclaimed the occasion in celebration of Dark Skies Week at the Lake Superior Zoo. The event highlighted the international movement aimed at reducing light pollution, which adversely affects both wildlife and human well-being. Seven local businesses, including Fitgers, Meteek Supply, and the Lake Superior Zoo, received Dark Sky friendly certification for their efforts to minimize light impact by using appropriate outdoor lighting. Todd Burlet, President of Starry Skies North, emphasized the importance of protecting dark skies, noting that Duluth is a gateway to two internationally recognized Dark Sky locations that lack adequate protections.
