Naseby Makes Progress Toward Achieving Dark Sky Certification

Naseby is moving closer to achieving certification as a dark sky reserve following the approval of Plan Change 22 to the Central Otago District Plan, aimed at protecting and enhancing the night sky from light pollution. The Central Otago District Council announced the plan earlier this year, and with no public appeals received, it will take effect tomorrow. Project co-ordinator Jill Wolff expressed her excitement over the development, stating that the project is now back in their hands. The group plans to update its original application, submitted in 2018, to include new photographs and data reflecting the area’s darkness, with support from the Naseby Vision organization and DarkSky International to meet official requirements.
