National Academy of Engineering Honors Five Members from University of Texas

At The University of Texas at Austin’s Cockrell School of Engineering, two faculty members and three alumni have been elected to the prestigious National Academy of Engineering (NAE), marking a significant honor in the engineering realm. Their contributions span critical areas, including nuclear power safety, landslide forecasting, LED technology, and crane safety, profoundly impacting technology and public safety. The esteemed members include Dale E. Klein and Ellen Rathje, whose work enhances nuclear safety and natural disaster resilience, respectively, as well as alumni Michael Krames and Mark Papermaster, noted for their advancements in LED lighting and integrated circuit design. Jimmy Don Wiethorn, recognized for his expertise in crane safety, rounds out the group. These new members join a distinguished circle of 23 active NAE members from the Cockrell School, reflecting the institution’s significant influence on the engineering profession.
