A coalition government has pledged $3.5 million for upgrading sports reserves in North Bendigo and Marong ahead of the May 3 election, aimed at enhancing community participation and improving facilities. Nationals leader David Littleproud announced the investment, which includes $3 million for Stage 2 redevelopment of the North Bendigo Recreation Reserve and $500,000 for lighting upgrades at Malone Park in Marong. The upgrades are set to benefit the North Bendigo football Netball Club and the Bendigo Cricket Club by providing enhanced amenities, such as separate facilities for male and female athletes, additional change rooms, and improved safety features for evening activities. Local leaders express confidence that these improvements will foster greater community involvement in sports while addressing rising concerns over crime and anti-social behavior. The City of Greater Bendigo will also contribute to the funding for these significant enhancements.
