Browns Canyon National Monument in central Colorado has officially become a certified International Dark Sky Park, attracting not only outdoor adventurers but also stargazers keen to explore its pristine night skies. This 21,586-acre area is recognized for its clear, dark conditions, allowing visitors to witness celestial wonders, including the Milky Way. Alongside its natural beauty, the park’s staff undertook extensive efforts to reduce light pollution, retrofitting existing light fixtures and engaging the community in conservation efforts. Established by President Obama in 2015, Browns Canyon is home to diverse wildlife and rich cultural history, now complemented by a mission to enhance night sky programming for visitors.
