The Oregon boys swimming team achieved a remarkable victory at the Lightning Invitational on January 17, securing first place with 385 points, surpassing reigning Division 2 state champions Rhinelander, who finished with 367 points. Oregon’s coach, Justin Sawran, praised the team for their impressive performance despite a prior loss to DeForest in a Badger Conference dual meet. Notable individual achievements included sophomore Gavin Vordermann winning the 100-yard butterfly and earning a fourth-place finish in the 50 freestyle. Freshman contributions were highlighted by Jake Siget’s fourth-place finish in the 200 individual medley and Brandon Tereba’s fourth in the 500 freestyle. The team’s relay efforts also shone, with the 200 freestyle relay team finishing third. In their earlier dual meet against DeForest, Oregon won two races but ultimately lost 92-78, showcasing a mix of strong performances and tight competitions.
