The city of Sisters, Oregon, has been designated as the state’s second International Dark Sky Community by DarkSky International. This recognition is aimed at promoting astrotourism and showcases Sisters’ commitment to reducing light pollution while preserving the nighttime environment. Situated at the eastern edge of the Cascade Mountains, the town is known for its picturesque attractions, including Black Butte and McKenzie Pass. Mayor Michael Preedin expressed pride in the designation, highlighting its potential to enhance local tourism and environmental preservation efforts. This announcement follows a series of similar recognitions in Oregon, including three Dark Sky Parks and a Dark Sky Place, all part of a concerted initiative by the Oregon Dark Sky Network to foster responsible outdoor lighting and protect dark skies across the state.
