Oskaloosa High School’s Innovation workshop is empowering students to tackle real-world business challenges through immersive, hands-on experiences in partnership with local companies. Selected through nominations and participation in programs like Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), fifteen students underwent comprehensive training before collaborating with businesses such as Iowa Wood Preservers, Clow Manufacturing, and Musco sports Lighting. This problem-based approach encourages deep analysis and creative solutions, as students worked intensively on operational challenges. Participants like junior Lizzie Brummer found the experience insightful, affirming her interest in business management, while senior Xavier Edwards expressed both the rewards and difficulties of navigating complex problems. The program not only enhances students’ analytical and communication skills but also provides businesses with fresh perspectives on issues they face, fostering a strong sense of community engagement. Through this initiative, Oskaloosa is setting a unique educational precedent that prioritizes real-world application over traditional classroom learning.
