Overnight Closure of Devonshire Street in Carlisle Planned for One Week

Cumberland Council has announced that a street will close to vehicles for one week starting Sunday, March 2, from 8 PM to 5 AM, as part of a project to enhance its lighting system. The new installation will replace outdated LED wall-mounted lights with external LED lighting bars that aim to accentuate the upper floors of local buildings, creating a visually appealing streetscape. The project, funded by the UK Government’s Future High Street Fund and United Utilities Green Recovery Funding, follows recent renovations including wider pavements and improved seating options. While the street will remain open for pedestrian access during the closure, a full diversion route will be implemented, and residents can report any highway issues online or via the Highways Hotline.
