A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on November 4 in Rome between Italy’s RSE and the American firm Blue Laser Fusion (BLF) to collaborate on the development of the world’s first commercial-scale inertial fusion energy power plant. This agreement underscores Italy’s commitment to advancing fusion energy technology, as highlighted by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during the inaugural World Fusion Energy Group ministerial event. The partnership, led by Nobel Laureate Shuji Nakamura, aims to conduct research in three phases: initial analysis, prototype construction of a small-scale reactor, and the eventual launch of a full-scale power plant. This innovative initiative aims to address environmental challenges while positioning Italy as a leader in clean energy solutions, ultimately contributing to global decarbonization efforts.
