The Lyrid meteor shower will peak on April 21 and 22, providing stargazers with a chance to witness shooting stars this spring. To enhance viewing, it’s crucial to find locations far from city lights, as light pollution can significantly hinder visibility. NASA recommends selecting spots at least 20 miles from light sources and at higher elevations to avoid atmospheric obstructions. Several Utah state parks, recognized as International Dark Sky Parks, offer optimal viewing conditions, including Antelope Island and Dead Horse Point State Parks. Visitors should prepare for chilly weather, bring chairs and snacks, and allow their eyes to adjust to the dark for the best experience. If you miss this meteor shower, the next opportunity will be the Eta Aquariids, peaking from May 5 to 6.
