Polar Light Technologies has announced a significant breakthrough in micro-LED technology by successfully developing a 625-nm red light micro-LED using its innovative non-etching bottom-up fabrication method. This achievement enables the company to create red, green, and blue pyramidal micro-LEDs from the same material compound, a feat that has previously posed challenges in the industry due to material property limitations. By reducing strain in the indium gallium nitride/gallium nitride (InGaN/GaN) structures, this technique facilitates the integration of micro-LEDs for spatial computing and next-generation RGB displays while maintaining performance for smaller dimensions. The company, which recently partnered with FineTek and appointed Oskar Fajerson as CEO, sees this development as foundational for advancing monolithic RGB display technologies.
