Polar Light Technologies has successfully developed a 625-nm red micro-LED using its innovative non-etching bottom-up fabrication concept, enabling the production of red, green, and blue pyramidal micro-LEDs from the same material compound. This breakthrough is expected to advance spatial computing and support next-generation monolithic RGB displays. While blue and green micro-LEDs are commercially available, producing red has been challenging due to material property limitations. Polar Light’s method reduces strain in indium gallium nitride/gallium nitride structures and eliminates etching-related damage, enhancing performance and allowing for the potential development of sub-micrometer and nano-LEDs. The company announced a partnership with FineTek in October 2024 and appointed Oskar Fajerson as CEO earlier in the year.
