Construction has officially commenced on a new pavilion and docks in Port Carling, as announced by the District of Muskoka. The restoration project, aimed at enhancing accessibility and safety while extending the structure’s lifespan, is inspired by the historical significance of the original pavilion and docks, which served as key stops on steamship routes in the area. With an investment of almost $3 million, the project will replace damaged infrastructure from a 2020 crane accident and will include modern features such as ramps for accessibility, updated safety standards, and dark-sky compliant lighting. The existing timber crib foundation will be reused to minimize environmental impact and costs. Expected to be completed by spring 2025, the renovated facilities will be ready for local and cottager enjoyment during the summer boating season, with pedestrian access maintained throughout construction.
