Rockbridge Country Holiday Park in Presteigne has unveiled its new development, ‘The Retreat,’ tailored to complement the area’s designation as a Dark Sky Place. Set to open on April 25, this initiative comes a year after Presteigne and Norton were recognized as Wales’ first Dark Sky Community by Dark Sky International. Owners Glenn and Hannah Jones have focused on minimizing light pollution by installing low-level lighting and creating a transparent viewing dome with a professional telescope, in collaboration with the Marches Astrology Group to enhance stargazing experiences. The project, which garnered significant local interest, marks a successful collaboration among local authorities and community members aimed at preserving the region’s unpolluted night skies and promoting its natural beauty. According to community leader Leigh-Harling Bowen, ‘The Retreat’ will provide visitors with exceptional views of the dark, clear skies of Mid Wales.
