Dr. Ken Wishaw, a distinguished medical professional and pioneer in helicopter medicine, has redirected his efforts in retirement towards protecting the night skies as a passionate advocate for astronomy. Co-founder of CareFlight and the NSW Medical Retrieval Service, Dr. Wishaw has significantly contributed to life-saving medical practices in Australia and beyond. Now, he serves as secretary of the Brisbane Astronomical Society and co-founded the Australasian Dark Sky Alliance, where he advocates for reducing light pollution and promoting the establishment of a Dark Sky Reserve in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. His dedication to preserving our natural night environment has earned him the Dark Sky Defender Award for 2024 from Dark Sky International.
