At the Brookville Area School Board’s recent work session, Superintendent Erich May provided updates on the district’s budget for the 2025-26 school year, highlighting the financial impact of eliminating the occupation tax, resulting in a loss of $375,000 in annual revenue. The proposed budget includes a property tax increase capped at the state’s Act 1 Index of 5.5%, which would cost the median homeowner approximately $56 annually. Additionally, business Manager Shawn Arbaugh presented preliminary plans for converting to LED lighting, divided into three tiers, with an estimated total cost ranging from $50,000 to $750,000, while noting the availability of significant rebates for such projects. Lastly, high school teacher James Overly proposed a new AP Computer Science A class to complement the existing AP Computer Science Principles course, aiming to enhance students’ programming skills and better serve their educational needs. The board is scheduled to reconvene for a regular session later this month.
