The Berkeley County School District (BCSD) has received a $16,120 rebate from Berkeley Electric Cooperative in recognition of its recent lighting upgrades at Sangaree Middle School. The rebate, aimed at supporting additional LED lighting projects across the district, was presented by Tim Swicord, manager of energy services at Berkeley Electric. LED lighting not only improves classroom environments but also offers substantial energy savings—traditional bulbs consume 32 watts, while LEDs use only 8 watts. Jason Bunch, BCSD’s supervisor of engineering and environmental safety, highlighted that these upgrades are already ongoing at Sangaree Intermediate School and will contribute to significant cost savings. Both BCSD and Berkeley Electric Cooperative view this partnership as mutually beneficial and are committed to further energy-efficient projects to enhance the educational experience for students and staff.
