Shining Success: Downtown Orillia’s Light Pole Project Earns Recognition

At the recent OBIAA Conference in Collingwood, the Downtown Orillia business Improvement Area (DOBIA) received a special Award of Merit for its innovative downtown light pole project, which features nearly two kilometers of soft white LED lights enhancing the area’s illumination. This initiative is part of the board’s broader strategy to beautify the downtown and create a vibrant atmosphere appealing to visitors of all ages. Board Secretary Megan Murray expressed pride in the recognition, emphasizing the importance of the project in fostering a welcoming environment. The DOBIA, which represents over 150 shops and 25 restaurants, is supported by a commercial levy from local property owners and aims to transform a six-block area into a prime destination for shopping and entertainment.
