Significant Enhancements Planned for Chappapeela Sports Park to Support Youth Initiatives and Stimulate Local Economy
The Hammond Area Recreation District No. 1 (H.A.R.D. #1) is initiating several major upgrades at Chappapeela sports Park, aimed at enhancing facilities and programs for the community. Key projects include the installation of energy-efficient LED lighting on multiple sports fields to improve visibility and extend usage, as well as the turfing of baseball fields 7-14 to reduce rain-related cancellations. Additionally, a new gym facility is set to break ground soon, slated for completion by summer 2026, which will support various indoor sports and community events. These enhancements are expected to significantly benefit local youth programs and stimulate the local economy by attracting regional tournaments and increasing tourism, ultimately positioning Chappapeela Sports Park as a premier destination for athletic events.
