Photographers across England have captured breathtaking images of the Geminid meteor shower, which illuminated the night sky on Saturday morning. Known for its intensity and consistency, this annual celestial event was visible from regions such as Northumberland and Somerset. Enthusiastic photographer Lee Reid journeyed to Lindisfarne in Northumberland, where he found a clear spot to observe and photograph the spectacular display. The Geminids, originating from the asteroid 3200 Phaethon, are celebrated for producing bright, multi-colored meteors, partly due to the presence of various metals. This year’s shower will remain active until December 20, with its peak expected between December 14 and 15. Dr. Minjae Kim of the University of Warwick highlighted the Geminids as one of the most remarkable meteor showers of the year, captivating stargazers with their potential to produce over 150 meteors per hour.
