As of November 2024, CPKC stadium, home of the Kansas City Current, becomes the first LEED Gold-certified stadium in Missouri and the world’s first LEED-certified venue for professional women’s sports. It features sustainable practices such as zero-waste concessions, significant water savings, and solar energy contributions. Other NWSL stadiums are also stepping up with their own environmentally friendly initiatives. Providence Park in Portland and Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego have received LEED Gold certification, showcasing features like waste diversion and solar panel installations. Audi Field, WakeMed soccer Park, Shell Energy Stadium, and Lumen Field also demonstrate strong sustainability measures, including renewable energy use and efficient waste management systems. Together, these stadiums underscore the NWSL’s commitment to sustainability as they lead the charge toward greener practices in professional sports venues.
