Philip John Holmes and Yueh-Lin (Lynn) Loo have been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), one of the highest honors in engineering, as announced on February 11. Holmes, an emeritus professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Princeton, was recognized for his groundbreaking work in nonlinear analysis and chaotic dynamics, crucial for understanding complex systems in various fields. He has authored landmark textbooks and mentored numerous scholars during his 42-year academic career. Loo, a professor of chemical and biological engineering and an expert in clean energy technologies, was honored for her advancements in solar-cell technology and leadership in decarbonizing maritime shipping. Both professors joined four other Princeton alumni in the 2025 NAE class, which includes 128 members and 22 international appointees. The diverse accomplishments of the newly elected members reflect significant contributions to engineering and technology, spanning sustainable practices and innovative material sciences.
