The U.S. Department of Energy’s office of Science has awarded two Small business Innovation Research (SBIR)-Small business Technology Transfer (STTR) Phase II grants aimed at advancing organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology for solid-state lighting. The selected projects are from MicroContinuum, Inc., which focuses on the roll-to-roll production of a low-cost OLED substrate with enhanced light extraction, and Pixelligent Technologies LLC, which will develop advanced light extraction materials for OLED lighting. These initiatives will drive commercialization efforts over a 24-month period starting in April 2015. The awards stem from the FY14 Phase I grant cycle, reflecting the Department’s commitment to fostering small business participation in federal research and development. More information can be found on the DOE SSL website and the office of Science’s SBIR program page.
