Leaders of the Cranborne Chase National Landscape, a recognized international dark sky reserve near Salisbury, Wiltshire, are calling on local residents and farmers to combat light pollution to preserve the area’s exceptional night sky. Steve Tonkin, an advisor to the reserve, emphasizes the detrimental impact of excessive artificial lighting on nocturnal wildlife and advocates for the use of warm night lighting and canopy covers to mitigate this issue. Cranborne Chase is one of only seven dark sky reserves in the UK and 22 worldwide, highlighting the importance of community efforts in maintaining its natural beauty.
