Kirkwall and Inverness Airports have upgraded their runway, taxiway, and apron lighting systems to new energy-efficient LED installations, significantly improving energy savings by 80% compared to previous systems while ensuring compliance with Civil Aviation Authority standards. The updates, managed by Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL), were designed to minimize operational disruptions. Inverness Airport General Manager Graeme Bell noted that the modern lighting strengthens airport infrastructure and environmental goals, while Kirkwall Airport Manager Jamie Conley highlighted the project’s role in enhancing safety and reducing energy consumption.
