The University of Santo Tomas (UST) celebrated this year’s Paskuhan festivities with a unique Olympic-themed display following the Philippines’ remarkable performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The lighting ceremony, held on Friday, featured a parade with a reindeer-adorned truck and the Olympic-style entry of UST athlete EJ Obiena, who symbolically carried a torch. UST officials highlighted the event’s focus on unity and hope, drawing parallels between the Olympic spirit and the message of Christmas. The festive display included over 2,000 energy-efficient LED lights, tributes to various sports, and decorations that represent both Olympic achievements and the essence of the holiday season. UST’s Secretary General emphasized the inspiration derived from Olympic athletes’ perseverance, a sentiment echoed in the overarching theme of Paskuhan 2024: “Ever Thankful, Ever Hopeful.” The festivities extended to UST’s branch campus in General Santos City, marking a historic moment as Thomasian Christmas rites were celebrated across multiple campuses.
