Utah’s Tallest Skyscraper to Use LED Lights for Air Quality Forecasts

In today’s news, Kim Shelley, the Director of Utah’s Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), has announced her departure from the role at the end of February after 21 years with the department, including her tenure in Governor Spencer Cox’s cabinet since 2020. The reason for her sudden exit is currently unspecified. Additionally, Utah’s tallest skyscraper, the Astra Tower, will soon implement a groundbreaking air quality forecasting system using LED lights that will change colors based on real-time air quality data, set to debut on February 20th. Meanwhile, northern Utah is experiencing high winds, with gusts reaching up to 80 mph in areas like Strawberry Peak and Logan Peak, prompting safety warnings and the implementation of traction laws in certain canyons due to the expected rain and snow.
