Yaita City in Tochigi Prefecture is rallying support from residents and baseball fans to restore nighttime lighting at the Ohtawara Electric Ground, following the theft of lighting cables that disrupted children’s baseball activities. To address this setback, the city has launched a crowdfunding campaign titled “Bring Back Dreams and Hope to Baseball Youth from Theft Damage! ~Baseball Field Lighting Repair Project~” through the CAMPFIRE platform, aiming to raise 30 million yen (approximately $230,000) by March 31, 2025. As of March 11, the campaign has successfully raised 3,900,000 yen from various contributors, including corporations. City officials emphasize the importance of the lighting for youth sports development and are actively seeking financial support while police continue their investigation into the theft. Additional security measures are being implemented to prevent future incidents. The project seeks not only to restore essential infrastructure but also to unite the community around youth sports and instill hope among young athletes. Contributions come with various recognition rewards, underlining the collective effort to overcome adversity and promote sports tourism in Yaita.
