York St John University Welcomes The Dark Matters Event

The university’s Creative Centre will host a free event titled “The Dark Matters” on Tuesday, March 4, as part of the North York Moors National Park’s tenth anniversary Dark Sky Festival celebrations. The evening will feature discussions led by a panel of dark sky experts, academics, and artists, aiming to raise awareness about the impacts of excessive artificial light on wildlife, human health, and the environment. Chaired by Dr. Jen Hall, the panel will explore responsible lighting practices and their benefits, including reducing energy waste and enhancing safety. Attendees will have the opportunity to view “The Dark Matters” film, showcasing research by Dr. Hall and Dr. Brendan Paddison, while also considering the potential for York to become the UK’s first Dark Sky city.
